Charge balance is one of the most important factors for realizing high performance OLEDs. In this work, we provide a novel strategy to improve the charge balance in OLEDs by optimizing the hole injection layer and the electron transporting layer and thereby controlling the charge carrier supplies in the device. Red OLEDs with improved performance were achieved.

Cumulative lifetime enhancement effect of deuteration in blue organic light‐emitting diodes

A cumulative enhancement effect of deuteration on the blue OLED lifetime was revealed and elucidated using progressively deuterated anthracene-based host materials. The lifetime of deuterated devices is nearly proportional to the deuteration ratio in the host molecule. Up to fourfold lifetime improvement has been achieved with highly deuterated hosts.

The presented study with light-field acquisition and rendering was conducted with n = 28 test-subjects performing a tele-robotic depth matching task based on a 2.5D visualization of the robotic environment. Light-field: The user study showed that light-field (LF) head-mounted displays reduce workload. View perspective: Rotational and translational perspective changes enabled through real-time view synthesis improve depth matching accuracy.

We review the emerging mini/micro-LED displays featuring high-dynamic range and good sunlight readability. For mini-LED backlit LCDs, we quantitatively evaluate how the device contrast ratio, local dimming zone number, and local light profile affect the image quality. For the emissive mini/micro-LED displays, we propose two figure-of-merits for optimizing ambient contrast ratio and power efficiency.

In this review article, we give a comprehensive overview of three promising display technologies (liquid crystal displays [LCDs] with mini-light-emitting diode (LED) backlight, organic LED [OLED] displays, and micro-LED [μLED] displays) through nine display performance metrics, including ambient contrast ratio, motion picture response time, viewing angle and angular color shift, color gamut, power consumption, resolution density, cost, lifetime, and thin profile and panel flexibility. The strengths and weaknesses of each technology are analyzed, and their future perspectives are discussed.

Microscopic light-emitting diodes (LEDs) made of crystalline inorganic semiconductor materials micro-transfer printed in large quantities onto rigid or flexible substrates form monochrome and color displays having a wide range of sizes and interesting properties. Transfer-printed micro-LED displays promise excellent environmental robustness, brightness, spatial resolution, and efficiency. Passive-matrix and active-matrix inorganic LED displays were constructed, operated, and their attributes measured.
