Abstract

The year 2002 heralded the transition of television to a digital interface, with widespread DVI/HDCP adoption in digital televisions and high-definition set-top boxes. The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) will supplant DVI as the digital television interface of choice over the next few years. HDMI is fully backward compatible with DVI and incorporates digital audio, standard television video formats, link intelligence, and a more robust, consumer friendly connector. This paper reviews the technology specified by HDMI.
